“Everything in life is about choices. It’s about decisions that we make.” Those are words from one of my mentors that I learned from him a while back. Your life today is a cumulative result of the choices you made yesterday. It’s really amazing when you take the time to think about it and realize how true that really is. What’s more exciting is that you don’t have to consult your past to become a better person tomorrow.
Starting today, right NOW! you can make new choices because your past does not determine your future.
1. To get different results requires different actions
Perhaps you haven’t really decided what you’re doing with your life going forward. What do you want to accomplish? If you are going to have a better future you are better off making better choices for yourself and the people in your circle of influence. I’m not a genius but I do understand that when one does the same thing over and over again and they expect different results then they are insane.
This applies to me, you and everyone around us. Every day is an opportunity to make the right choices that will serve you tomorrow. In the Bible, as Moses was preparing the Israelites to go into the Promised Land with Joshua, he encouraged them to make the right choices going forward. This is what he said to them in Deuteronomy 30:19-20, “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.“
2. Your decisions have a long lasting impact
Notice how he talks about descendants as well. What you do today affects not only your life but more so your family tree. Whatever you decide to do with your life, begin with the end in mind as Stephen Covey once said. DECIDE what you want to accomplish and work backwards to figure out how you are going to get there. Base your choices on the sound Word of God. It’s a very thin line between fear and courage, purity and perversion, integrity and corruption.
Your life depends on you making the right decisions. Make it count so that the generations after you thank you and benefit from what you do today. I wish you all the best in your endeavors this year. Live your life for the glory of God.
Wisdom to make the right decisions is priceless. You must spend time in the presence of God and in His Word to acquire that wisdom. It is more precious than any amount of money or fame you can ever get. It brings peace of mind, long life, riches and more.
