The storms of life are a constant and so is change but one thing for sure is that God remains faithful to fulfil His promises as long as you stay connected to Him. Life takes us through different seasons just as the earth has seasons like summer, autumn, winter and spring. In our personal lives we each go through those kinds of phases.

In the seasons when you’re going through storms and nothing makes sense it’s easy to get lost in the midst of the storm and lose sight of what God is doing in your life. Think about the pilots that have to navigate their planes through stormy conditions even when they don’t have a clear view of their surroundings.

The pilot’s plane has several gauges that he uses to navigate the plane to its destination and they just have to trust them even when they can’t see where they’re going. Doing this requires a level of faith that most people don’t have but as a believer that’s the life you are called to live. In your spiritual walk with Jesus Christ through this life the key to success in navigating through life’s storms is dependent on how you use the following gauges:

1. Prayer

Communication with God is never time wasted especially when going through a difficult phase in your life. When business is low or when you’re faced with turmoil at home it’s easy to want to fix everything right away and neglect consulting God about what you should do. Life will always throw you some curve balls now and again but to have consistent success in life you must remember that God should remain your top priority.

For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand [anywhere else]; I would rather be a doorkeeper and stand at the threshold in the house of my God than to dwell [at ease] in the tents of wickedness.” ~ Psalm 84:10

Being in the presence of God brings a sense of calmness in your inner man no matter what may be happening around you. A good example is that of Jesus and his disciples in the boat and there was a raging storm around them. The disciples were in panic mode while Jesus was sleeping. Jesus got up to rebuke the storm but wondered why his disciples panicked like they did.

In a sense it says to us that there’s no need to panic as long as Jesus is in your boat. When you’re in his presence have the assurance that everything is going to be alright. He is the author and perfector of your faith after all. The secret to success for getting through tough situations and knowing what to do next is spending time in the Lord’s presence.

2. The Word of God

The Holy Bible is God’s manual for your daily life and becoming what He has created you to become for His glory. It has instructions of how you are to conduct yourself as a Christ follower, encouragement to help you face challenges, warnings to keep you from going down the wrong path and promises for obeying God’s will.

Meditate on the word of God as much as you can. During challenging times it can help you identify sin that needs to be repented of, get new revelation about God’s promises that can catapult you to a higher level and be re-energised to keep pursuing God’s purpose for your life.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” ~ 2 Timothy 3:16-17

In the book of Ephesians it is described as the sword of the Spirit. A sword is a weapon of war to destroy your adversaries. Therefore you must use the word of God against situations that do not line up with God’s standards. Common situations include financial struggle, sickness and disease, broken families, fear of the unknown, fear of success, etc.

There is nothing that can thwart the word of God and as long as you declare it over your tough situations and follow through with the appropriate actions you will achieve success. There is nothing that can stop you from being a successful person like others as long as you stand on the word of God.

3. Prophecies over Your Life

Psalm 139:16 tells us, “Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.” This scripture means that before you were even formed in your mother’s womb God already had a plan for your life. Also keep in mind that God created you for His glory.

Success in life comes down to discovering what God’s purpose for your life is and doing everything possible to follow through on it. God ordained you for a specific purpose here on earth and it’s your responsibility to do what God commands you to do at each stage of your life to follow through on that.

This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare.” ~ 1 Timothy 1:18

Being successful is guaranteed when you obey God’s will. It’s only when you decide to do your own thing as the world might say that you prolong the hardships you’re going through. You’d rather be wrong and lose knowing God was with you than to win knowing that He wasn’t.

Contend for the books that were written about your life in the courts of heaven because God the Righteous Judge is eager to rule in your favour. He may convict you of sin not to condemn you but so you can repent of it and give Him the legal right to fulfil His promises. The devil will find anything against you to keep God from blessing you so you must fight to see God’s purpose for your life come to pass.
