A quote I read by Saint Augustine says, “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” Having places to travel is one of the best experiences that you can have in life. It is an enriching exercise that allows you to create lifetime memories, much better than all the material possessions that you can accumulate. Millennials today are some of the most eager people to travel destinations around the world to learn and do different things.

However, even if you are older it does not mean you can no longer travel. In fact, the more mature you are the more you will appreciate the experience. From my travel experiences I have learned some things that I believe are priceless and that you should also adopt as you travel.
1. You see yourself in a new light
When you are used to being in one place you never get to appreciate the experiences of other people in different parts of the world. There are many places to travel such that most people never get to visit different travel destinations. When you meet new people away from your usual surroundings you get to understand the hardships and opportunities they have.
This may cause you to be more appreciative or disgruntled with your own life. If you come from a place where the economy is relatively good you may not fully appreciate the blessings you have until you visit a country where the average person survives on $1 a day. On the other hand you may think you are the best in your field until you meet others that are more skilled in what you do.
This alone is reason to make travel a priority in your life and more so for children who have a huge capacity to learn new things compared to adults.
2. People are the same at the core
While most countries will have cultural differences wherever you go I have noticed that as human beings we are really the same no matter where we come from. We have the same desire to live better lives, make meaningful contributions to our communities, to defend our loved ones and even similar fears.
Sometimes there are misconceptions between people and that may be the reason why war breaks out between nations and different tribes in a nation. People are the same everywhere because we are created in God’s image. Find different places to go and you will realize that this is true.
The only differences we may have are cultural and personality but we are all brothers and sisters created by the Almighty God.
3. You don’t know what you don’t know
What you know pales in comparison to what you do not know. No one group of people knows everything there is to know. That is why relationships are important to life. You can learn more from other people about certain things than on your own and taking the time to travel will help you do just that.
The Internet has developed significantly over time and it is easy to search for travel destinations and find out about different parts of the world before you go there. Remember though that just reading about a place on the Internet is a world of difference to having an experience.
You learn more from experiences than what you read or are told about. There are more student exchange programs between countries today than before because people realize the value of travel and being in a different environment. They provide growth opportunities to anyone who is willing.
