Most products you buy come with a manual from the manufacturer to give you a blueprint of how to use that product. Our lives are no different. As God’s creation He has a blueprint for your life that if followed will reap maximum benefit for you and His glory.
The majority of people live in frustration and despondency because they may not know God’s plan for their life or they may know it but be choosing to ignore it. This is not how life is meant to be lived but in joy and happiness.
Below are four benefits of doing the will of God for your life. Let us take a look:
1. Peace of mind
You have an internal compass that guides you in your decision making based on the values of the word of God. This is the Holy Spirit who guides you in all truth revealing to you the mind of God for every aspect of your life.
The Apostle John put it this way, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” (John 16:13)
“Peace is the umpire for doing the will of God.” ~ Edwin Louis Cole
Even when certain situations do not make sense but you have peace in your heart and mind you can trust that God will carry you through that situation. You just need to be obedient to what He commands you to do.
It is when you choose to do your own things when God has told you to do something else that you will experience trouble. A good example of this is Jonah whom God instructed to go to Nineveh to preach the word to the people there but fled to Tarshish instead.
The result of his disobedience was almost tragic as many people almost perished until he repented of his disobedience and did what God told him to do in the first place.
2. Blessing and increase
The ultimate purpose of life is to bring glory to God and He will work through you to get it. He loves to show Himself mighty on your behalf so that the earth may know that there is a God in heaven. When you walk in obedience He will validate your purpose by causing you to prosper.
There are numerous examples in the Bible such as Joseph, Joshua, Moses and Daniel who experienced the blessing of God in such a way that it made the people they led to believe on the Lord.
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” ~ Psalm 1:1-3
The blessing was not just for them but for the benefit of those they led too. When you are careful to obey God’s will He will certainly bless you so that you become a blessing to those around you as well.
3. Joy at seeing changed lives
After all has been said and done what matters is the difference you make in other people’s lives. Can people point to you and say their lives have been that much better because you lived? Your work and everything you do is a form of ministry that impacts the people God puts in your life.
A general misconception in some places is that in order to minister to people you must be a pastor or have some role in the church as we know it. You can still minister to people outside that setting through your work in the marketplace, on the sports field, social work, classroom, etc.
When I read the book, “Anointed for Business” by Ed Silvoso it made it clear that your life’s calling is your ministry and the people you serve are your congregation. So whatever God has called you to do is your ministry and He wants you to follow through on it so that you touch the people He has called you to serve. In other words God’s purpose is not limited to what you do in the church setting.
4. Securing the destiny of future generations
Your choices today will have an impact on future generations and understanding the weight of that will help you make the right ones. Choosing to be selfless and doing what God commands you will attract a blessing to your life that will pass on to your children and generations after that.
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” ~ Deuteronomy 30:19
The greatest legacy you can pass on is that of the faith. The blessing is up to the third and fourth generation in your lineage. May your family point to you as the person that made a difference in your family’s history by choosing to abide by God’s word.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I hope it has been a blessing to you and encouraged you to be sensitive to God and walk in obedience to His plan for your life. The purpose of life, yours in particular is to bring glory God and He will enable you to do it.
