Fear keeps a lot of people from realizing their full potential even though they possess the gifts and talents God has given them to do so. Everyone has gifts and talents to do what they are created to do including you.

The sad thing is that fear is just a state of mind and nothing else. A popular acronym for fear is False Evidence Appearing Real. Fear is the devil’s tool for restricting you from becoming all that God has created you to be.

Fear does suck and God does not want you to live in fear. He has not given you a spirit of fear but of power, of love and of a sound mind. You do not have to live in fear because you are a child of the Most High God. Here are five steps you can take to conquer that fear:

1. Submit yourself to God

In order to go up you have to give up your self-dependence and give of yourself completely to the will of God. It may not happen at one go, it can be a gradual process. God is your Creator and He knows exactly what He designed you for.

When you give your life to Christ you come into a covenant with Him saving you from condemnation and being restored to life by His death on the cross. This is the most important step in conquering fear in your life. God will seek after you and not the other way round.

All you have to do is to accept His invitation and allow Him to be the Lord of Your Life. Doing so will mark the beginning of a great and ultimately victorious journey through life.

2. Understand your authority in Christ

In learning how to overcome fear I realized that for the most part I was blinded from the promises of God’s Word. Jesus accomplished everything for you on the Cross of Calvary and because you are a co-heir with Christ you are also an overcomer.

Through His death you are able to do great things because it is Him that lives in you and enables you to live the life He has called you to.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” ~ Galatians 2:20

Do not miss out on His blessing because you are not aware of them. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

3. Know your enemy

A big part of winning any battle is knowing who your adversary is and how they operate. Doing so allows you to plan a counterattack to avoid losing the battle and devising a way to defeat your enemy.

Winning any battle is simple (not easy) when you know yourself as well as your enemy, the devil. Look for patterns in your enemy’s behavior and you will get ideas of his tactics so that you can learn how to counter them.

He instills fear in you when you are moving closer and closer to what God has in store for you. One of the ways of conquering fear is just facing it in the Name of Jesus Christ and you will realize that after you do comes your breakthrough. You will also realize that there was nothing to fear after all.

4. Stand on the Word of God

You get bound by fear when you do not know the truth of God’s Word. It does not matter what your outer world suggests because you can influence it to change by standing on the Word and declaring it. Lies from the enemy keep you bound but truth sets you free.

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” ~ John 8:32

God’s word and the principles found there are timeless. They are true yesterday, today and forever. The reason why the enemy uses fear so much is because if you knew the truth about who you are in Christ you would become a threat to him.

Meditate on the Word of God so that you learn how to overcome fear when the devil tries to use it to get you off track.

5. Share your testimony

Nothing can dispute a real life testimony of what the Lord has done for you. Reflect on the good things He has done before and keep them as a memorial. They will remind you of God’s faithfulness and give you confidence that He will come through for you again when you need Him.

You can create a Wall of Remembrance with pictures of your past victories and put it somewhere you can see it every day. I got this idea when I watched the Kendrick Brothers movie War Room. This is a powerful way of keeping your faith in God rock solid no matter what you go through.
