Prayer for the most part is done as an afterthought of whatever man has planned to do with his life and in different situations. We tend to come up with our own plans and make prayer an add-on asking God to bless whatever we have decided.
Yet God wants us to do things in the right order of seeking Him and getting guidance as to how to deal with situations in our life. If you learn to apply that order of doing things you will live from victory to victory in spite of the obstacles that come your way.
Here are six reasons why having a prayer strategy matters:
1. God commands us to pray
Prayer is simply conversation with God our Creator. Think about the people you value most in life. The reason you value them is because you spend quality time and get to know them more intimately. As you know them more intimately they share with you the deeper things in their hearts.
“Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” ~ Jeremiah 29:12-13
The same applies with your relationship with God. He loves you so much that He wants to spend time with you to tell you the secret things in His heart. He wants to show you things to come in your life that will bring him glory. Life today can be very hectic but even in all the chaos make time to be in the presence of God and abide in Him.
2. Life is spiritual
Everything in life is first spiritual before it comes into manifestation. You can see this in the book of Genesis when God created the earth. He spoke the earth and its fullness into existence. Without first realizing things in the Spirit they do not come into manifestation.
As you pray and God reveals things to you in the Spirit it is a sign of the things that are yet to come. Like a baby in its mother’s womb are the secret things God has purposed for you before they are brought forth into reality.
Many successful people in the world today understand that life is spiritual, including non-believers. Until you get to a point where you regularly abide in the presence you might never fully understand that everything starts in the Spirit.
3. To get a verdict from the courts of Heaven
The error we often make as human beings is to get onto the battlefield of life before we strategize how we approach situations in our lives. The outcome is often defeat and frustration at not seeing things you hoped for coming to pass.
The devil our adversary daily accuses us of sin in our lives and can legally prevent us receiving God’s blessings in our lives. This is where we need to confess our sins before the Lord and get right with people we are not in right standing with.
You must understand that the devil will use anything against you to accuse you to stop God from blessing you. God is faithful and just to forgive you for your sins if you confess them. He convicts you of your sin not to condemn you but so that you can repent of them which will give Him the legal right to release His blessings into your life.
4. To get revelation
As you spend more time with the Lord He will show you things that He is planning to do in your life and on earth. The secret things of His heart. One word from God can turn your situation around and get you to another level. It is the difference between a good decision and a God decision.
“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” ~ Jeremiah 33:3
While good things are not bad they can mislead you and cause you to miss your Divine destiny. You must pursue the best God has for your life and not settle for less than that. To know what that is for you spending time in His presence is necessary. Fasting and prayer are the answer to unlocking things in the spiritual realm.
5. It gets God’s attention
God loves it when you pursue Him relentlessly. It gets His attention. Not that He doesn’t already know you are there because He watches over you all the time. I am talking about getting His attention such that God is moved to move on your behalf to do great and mighty things in your life.
One example of such a person in the Bible was Jabez in the book of Chronicles. He called upon the Lord to transform his life and He answered his request. Not much is said about him but it indicates that he was born in hardship and cried out for God’s blessing in a way that got the Lord’s attention.
When you pray corporately with other believers God is moved to act on your requests because there is power in agreement. God loves it when we are united and chooses to move in your lives so that the world may know we are Christians by our love for each other.
6. It glorifies God
God is glorified when we praise Him and seek His face. We are born to declare His praise (Isaiah 43:21) He is honored when we put our trust in Him like a father who delights in his children depending upon him for support.
As long as you have breath in you continue to praise the Lord with all you have.
