As we grow in maturity and responsibility in life the challenges we face become more intense and pretty overwhelming. It’s a constant internal battle pertaining to staying true to yourself and the Lord. Life as a believer is very challenging as you are faced with numerous worldly trials and temptations. While the enemy’s desire is to destroy us through those challenges God uses them to strengthen and solidify our faith.
Have you ever noticed that whenever you set a goal and start working towards it obstacles suddenly start arising?
Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Following Jesus Christ is sometimes a lonely expedition especially when you don’t have other believers around to support you. To live the life God has created us for requires that we constantly deny ourselves, take up our individual crosses and follow Him. Many of the things of this world can easily derail us from our walk with the Lord.
Think about the Hebrew children who refused to bow down to King Nebuchadnezzar in the book of Daniel. They denied themselves and identified with the Lord their God no matter what the possible consequences. The three of them were cast into a fiery furnace to burn for refusing to bow down.
What then happened was miraculous. A fourth person was seen in that furnace with them, the God of heaven and earth. The King stood in awe of what he saw with his eyes that he released them and even glorified God himself. Your boldness certainly has an impact on the people that you stand up to so do not go in hiding when you are faced with a tough situation. It is an opportunity for God to show Himself mighty on your behalf.
In the pursuit of fame, riches, pleasure and success many of us become sidetracked and lose sight of living our lives to glorify God. It becomes about me, me, me instead of the Creator. The struggles and scourges that arise because of that pursuit are backstabbing, corruption, self-centredness, sexual immorality, drug addiction, just to name a few.
Opportunities to sin abound and your response to them reflects your true character especially when no one is watching. When faced with such situations you have a choice between doing what’s right according to the Word of God and indulging the flesh. You may come across peer pressure influencing you to do otherwise but constantly leaning towards the Word of God will act as a shield to your life.
