“Be strong and of good courage; for you shall cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to your fathers to give them.” ~ Joshua 1v6
“Discoveries are often made by not following instructions, by going off the main road, by trying the untried.” ~ Frank Tyger
I once read a book entitled, “Dare To Live Now,” which I found to be very fascinating indeed. In one of the chapters, the author talks about man’s predicament. He explains that sin is not just breaking the law but failing to discover the adventure at the very heart of living. The world is facing a shortage of people who dare to live life to the full. There are many timid souls that do nothing and prefer to remain in their comfort zones.
Life is too short to be wasted. The true measure of a person’s life is not in the number of years they have lived. Rather, it is how they have lived during their time on earth. To make progress of any sort requires conscious decision making and decision making requires courage. Many people are held back from pursuing new prospects mostly because of fear of the unknown. While we may never know exactly what the future holds in store for us, we can trust in the faithfulness of God. God assured He would be with Joshua as he led the Israelites into the Promised Land. This is what God said in Joshua 1v5, “No man shall be able to stand against you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.”
When we do not act on our goals the potential within remains suppressed. God never promised a life with no hardships but He did assure us that we can prosper in spite of all the challenges that we face. Courage is not the absence of fear but taking action in spite of the fear. Discoveries are made by navigating new territory. Acting courageously has great rewards. Courage helps you develop your potential and achieve great and mighty exploits. There are many biblical characters that were bold enough to act on God’s Word even though they didn’t know what the outcome would be.
David slaughtered Goliath against all odds; Abraham left his homeland not knowing where he was going, and King Jehoshaphat instructed his musicians to stand against their enemies’ army. All of them received a blessing from God and became better than they were before. Courage applies in the present day too. Taking a step of faith takes us to a higher level we may never have thought possible. Take action to make your dreams come true. Dare to do what you have never done before. Choosing to remain where you are will start a process of decay and you eventually become irrelevant in the present. Set your goals and lay out a plan of action of how you will achieve them. Things will not always go your way but taking steps towards your goals will eventually bring you success. May the following poem inspire you to be bold enough to pursue your goals:
“To laugh is to risk appearing a fool,
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out for another is to risk involvement.
To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self.
To place your ideas, our dreams, before a crowd is to risk their loss.
To love is to risk not being loved in return.
To live is to risk dying.
To hope is to risk despair.
To try is to risk failure.
But risk must be taken, because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
The person who risks nothing does nothing, has nothing, and is nothing.
They may avoid suffering and sorrow, but they cannot learn, feel, change, grow, love or live.
Chained by their attitudes, they are slaves, they have forfeited their freedom.
Only a person who risks is free.”
Be all you can be!
