“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” ~ Proverbs 13:20
“You cannot continue to trust your own limited thinking, if you want to go to unlimited places in your life.” ~ Johnny Wimbrey
Last weekend I had a wonderful time with hundreds of my friends from all over Africa at a business conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. I normally attend these big events at least 4 times a year and it’s always my pleasure rubbing shoulders with like minded people. Imagine being in a place where you are just surrounded by people that share similar aspirations for their lives! It’s amazing, right? That’s exactly how I felt. I recalled some very important lessons about how to achieve your heart’s desires in life.
Birds of a feather
They say birds of a feather flock together. People that have shared values and ideals tend to hang around each other. What I have learned is that in life, success leaves clues. If you want to accomplish what someone else has accomplished you learn from their experiences and apply the lessons to your own life. Doing that shortens your learning curve and enables you to achieve your goals much faster than you would by trying to do things your own way. The thinking that got you to where you are today is not the same thinking that will advance you to the next level. This sounds so simple yet it’s so profound. My friends and I had the privilege of being trained by multi-millionaires in our business and as a result we saw gaps in performance between where we are and where we would like to be.
Listening to their stories and realizing the level of commitment that they put into their businesses made me realize that I can do better than I thought I could. The good thing about learning from people that are ahead of you is that you’re forced to stretch and go the extra mile. That stretch makes you realize the hidden potential that was inside you all along.
There we were seated and learning the strategies that our trainers applied along the way to become very successful. The amazing thing is that what me and my friends thought was impossible to do was actually done by our trainers. The coaching had a major impact on us because the only thing that changed was our attitude towards building our businesses. I’m on a mission since then to significantly change my lifestyle by paying the necessary price to get the results I want in my life. I’m so excited about what my partners and I will accomplish in the next few months.
Seeing other successful people and learning about their journey to the top makes you think that, “If he can do this, I can do it too.” Hang around people that celebrate you, not those that tolerate you. At the end of the day you are the average of the 5 people that you spend the most time with. Believe in God, believe in what you’re doing and believe that YOU too can be successful. If you have faith the size of a mustard seed you can move a mountain but if you have that much doubt you’re already defeated before you even try.
The only way a plane takes off the ground to fly and get to its destination is by applying full throttle when it takes off. The same is true for us. 90% commitment will not get you to where you want to go. 95% will not do and not even 99%! Giving 100% of your energy is the only way. I have had such shortcomings many times before until I realized that there is no other way but giving my very best. Whenever you’re deciding on something it’s never a question of, “Can I do this?” The question you need to be asking yourself regularly is, “Am I committed?” The truth is that the actions to become successful aren’t really difficult because what’s easy to do is also easy not to do. The difference is in your level of commitment.
