If you have watched the movie, “War Room” produced by Alex and Stephen Kendrick, the founders of Kendrick Brothers, you will have learned to look at prayer in a new way perhaps. If you loved the movie then I’m sure you are going to enjoy and benefit a lot from their book that was published just before the movie was released in theatres.
The title of the book is called, “The Battle Plan for Prayer: From Basic Training to Targeted Strategies”. In this book review we are going to pick out some of the key lessons that you can begin to apply to your own prayer life. I remember watching one of the clips that were building up to the movie where they explained the importance of having a prayer strategy instead of treating prayer as an afterthought.
Let us look at some of the lessons that you will find in the book when you read it:
1. Why Prayer
A line taken from the book says, “Ultimately, all prayer is for the glory of God. The best answer He can give to any prayer is whatever brings Him the most glory.” It is worth remembering that you are not created just to live a life that pleases you alone. Your life belongs to God and whatever direction He leads you it is for His glory.
“This people that I have formed for Myself; They shall declare My praise.” ~ Isaiah 43:21
What God wants from you is a solid relationship with Him which allows Him to show Himself mighty in your life in a progressive way – from one situation to another. God is so mighty that He has many Names that each describe a part of His glorious character. Throughout your life He wants to progressively reveal the facets of His character.
Each time you get to see a new side of His glorious character it presents an opportunity for you to tell the world about Him. He truly deserves the glory and the honor because He is Almighty, all powerful and all conquering.
2. What prayer looks like
It’s startling that so many people don’t understand what true prayer really is. Some of the religions in the world teach a distorted word on how and why people should pray. Prayer is really just sincere communication with the Lord of Almighty. When you engage in it in that way that is when you begin to see the amazing power of prayer.
“And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.” ~ Matthew 6:7-8
In the book the Kendrick brothers will teach you what real prayer is and what it isn’t. What they will reveal to you points to the Word of God. Jesus Himself often rebuked the Pharisees in his day for misleading people by teaching false doctrines that were just religious acts but never had any real impact on the people’s lives.
3. How to pray
Again they will take us through the scriptures to show us the pattern we ought to follow when we pray. Another amazing lesson covers the things that lock our prayers, keeping them from receiving ready answers. They will also show you the keys to prayers that get ready answers from heaven. I love the insight shared in this book mostly because the insight is based on the Word of God.
Here’s another excerpt from their book,
“While the locks of prayer lead us to repent and deal with wrong attitudes in our heart, the keys to prayer launch us forward into vibrant and effective praying. They help us live victoriously and know God in richer and fuller ways. The keys make prayer more genuine, pleasing, and authentic.”
It’s easy to tell that they did a lot of research into the subject of prayer and put their findings in this book. Prayer is a very important part of your relationship with God and can accomplish more than you can do in your own strength. Get yourself a copy of the book and learn these truths – they will set you up for success as you pursue the calling on your life. Share this book review with your friends on social media as well.
