How Servant Leadership is the Key to Your Destiny

How Servant Leadership is the Key to Your Destiny

- in Leadership

When I look back on the years that I’ve served the Lord I’m filled with awe by all the blessings that have come my way even when at times I hadn’t realized it. As indicated in a previous post God’s desire is for us to have the heart of a servant leader so that He can do great works here on earth. It’s when we try to do things our own way that we experience problems.

Think about what that meant for King Saul when He disobeyed God’s instructions, “Then Samuel said: as the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king.” (1 Samuel 15:22-23)

What God really wants is an obedient heart. David was a man after God’s own heart and you’ll probably know all the great things God did through him as a result. Saul was self-centred and sought to please himself instead of doing God’s will and great was his downfall. What are you doing to serve God today? What needs do you see in your church and community where you can serve God?

My pastor usually says, “Your involvement is the key to your call.” If Jesus didn’t come to be served but to serve how then can we do less? Be encouraged by the words of King David who was abundantly blessed by the Lord for his obedience, “Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)

I am greatly inspired by the work that Alex and Stephen Kendrick, the Christian movie producers, have done to transform millions of lives all around the world. They were serving as associate pastors in their church when God impressed it upon their hearts to begin working on Christian films. To date they have produced 5 films that have transformed people’s lives and have even had Hollywood marveling at the amazing work that they have done.

They initially started serving under their pastor Michael Catt and because of their faithfulness God has led them to form their own company, Kendrick Brothers, to produce movies. This is a picture of what faithfulness to God can accomplish in your life. Your leadership qualities begin to come through and in the process you create a platform from which you can touch so many other lives for the glory of God.

The key to finding your dream spouse, business success, graduating college, happiness, getting your dream job is in SERVING the Lord. Serve Him faithfully even when it doesn’t seem like there’s any hope of reward, even when the wicked seem to prosper seamlessly. God is faithful to perform His word in a way that you could never imagine.
