So you’ve been battered and bruised in the wilderness, you have almost given up on your Big Dream and worst of all you don’t know what to do. I went through such an experience a few months ago having pursued my business goals to no avail. This was after pouring my heart and soul into my business and it shattered my confidence when I didn’t get any results. At this time God will call you to rest and recover from the wilderness experience.
Many of our pursuits in life really put unnecessary pressure on us. It becomes important for us to take time out to recuperate to avoid burn out or nervous breakdown. In Matthew 11:28 – 29 this is what Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” It’s important to come to the realization that God’s ways are different from the world.
The Lord will begin to shine His light on you to reveal to you the dark areas of your life. Having been through this experience I know it’s very uncomfortable, almost unbearable. However, God does that not to condemn you but to draw you closer to Him. That’s just half of it. Even more uncomfortable is God asking you to GIVE UP your dream and surrendering it to Him! Sounds ridiculous, right? Why would God ask you to surrender your dream when He asked you to pursue it in the first place?
The reason is simple. The dream you have does not include the Big Need He has called you to address. At this point you have one of two choices to make. You can either continue going about it your own way or trust God with your dream so that He can give you a better one. To be honest with you I had a hard time making this decision as well.
His grace was sufficient for me and I gave up my dream to Him. Not only did He give me back my dream but it came back bigger including the Big Need He wants me to address i.e. to win more souls for Him and help people find direction in their lives. God never blesses selfish ambition. His desire is to see His lost children turning to Him for salvation and you are an instrument to carry out that purpose.
I am much happier with the new dream God has given me. The only difference is that it is centered on building His Kingdom whereas before it revolved around selfish desires. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” When you take care of God’s business be assured that He will take care of yours.
