I remember a quote from John Maxwell that says, “People are like rubber bands. They are most effective when they are stretched.” You may be familiar with the term Comfort Zone perhaps. It’s the place that you have grown familiar with because you’ve been there a long time. Getting to the next level of your journey always requires that you get out of your comfort zone and do things you have never done before.
Many people in the pursuit of their Big Dream never break through their comfort zones for fear of the unknown. Fear has extinguished so many dreams and that’s a sad fact of life. I guess it’s true that one of the richest places on earth is the graveyard because it’s laden with so many ideas that were never pursued. Don’t let that be you.
Fear is really just a state of mind. Someone once quoted it as False Evidence Appearing Real and it comes from the enemy. The great news is that, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world–our faith.” (1 John 5:4) Faith counters fear and gets you to your Promised Land.
It doesn’t matter that you feel unworthy of doing the great things that God has called you to accomplish. God uses the foolish things of this world to shame the wise that no man may boast of his own strength.
Let’s look at the life of Moses once again. He gave God every excuse possible to avoid pursuing the Big Dream he was destined for. In the natural he felt unworthy – a murderer, a poor speaker and he was 80 years old when God called him. All that didn’t matter to God nonetheless.
Take courage and move forward in the direction of your Big Dream. Feelings of fear are not an indication that you should turn back and abandon the Dream. It’s a good sign that you’re growing and moving towards fulfilling the Dream. Jesus Christ was very distressed in the Garden of Gethsemane but He was determined to fulfil his assignment so that we could live.
Courage is not the absence of fear but advancing in spite of fear. Fulfil your assignment so that the people in your life may have a better future. It’s your responsibility to God and those people he’s put in your life. God never said it was going to be easy but He assures us that He will be with us every step of the way.
Be all you can be!
