I’m sure you may have learned from past experiences how people can learn the same thing in many different ways and get differing perspectives. I was reminded recently about how being in a different environment can help you understand things clearer. When God puts you in a different environment from what you are familiar with you will know Him and His purposes in a whole new light. Consider the life of Abraham when God called Him.

Now the LORD had said to Abram: Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.” ~ Genesis 12:1

I have learned a lot about my own life in recent years as I have been travelling around the world quite extensively. Meeting new people different from me and their cultures has helped me understand myself in new ways and how my existence affects other people.

I don’t know really know how to explain, you have to experience it for yourself to fully understand what I mean. At the core we are all the same all over the world. People have the same basic needs, aspirations, fears, etc. The only difference is cultural backgrounds.

The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” ~ St. Augustine

Perhaps the simplest way to express my point is to say that when you meet other people not like you it’s like seeing yourself from another point of view. When you see yourself in a different way your world view changes and suddenly you see solutions to problems that you may have never seen before.

Meeting new people not like you will give you a much bigger appreciation of the world as a whole and the amazing opportunities that it offers. You begin to dream bigger than you ever have and realize that God is much bigger than you ever thought He was.

It is estimated that there are about 196 countries in the world. Travelling to every single one of them could take an entire lifetime but even going to a decent portion of that number will make your life much richer than you could have thought possible. Your world is only as big or small as you allow it to be. From time to time make a commitment to go somewhere new to have different experiences.

So the lesson is: change your environment from time to time. Go somewhere you have never been before, do something you have never done. That is one of the ways we discover our strengths and abilities in the context of our life purposes.

I hope I have managed to add some value to your life as well as understanding. Have a wonderful week and I would love to hear your comments below. If you think this will add value to other people click the social share buttons below. Until next time,
