Money Principles

We recently started sharing nuggets of wisdom on the subject of money. Money is a subject many people are interested in hence the need to talk about it and help as many people understand its laws and impact on our lives. In the previous article we verified that God did not intend for anyone to lack because He is an abundant God. There is absolutely more than enough wealth to go around but in order to have abundance there are laws that we need to obey.

As discussed before, one of the most important is the tithe. When you tithe God assures you of His blessing. Some of the reasons why most people do not tithe are as follows:

Ignorance

The most probable reason is that most people are not aware about tithing. It’s not really a surprise because in our homes the subject of money is rarely talked about, more so from a biblical point of view. However, ignorance is not bliss. This is what the Bible says in Acts 17:30, “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,” Awareness is important in order to receive God’s blessings.

Selfishness

Selfishness never attracts any good. Consider a water pipe system. When it’s functioning properly water flows constantly without ever remaining in the same position. When a blockage takes place the pipe bursts. In the same manner when you block the flow of money by holding onto what you should give you are basically setting yourself up for disaster. Here is a word of caution from the wisest man that ever lived, King Solomon, “There is one who scatters, yet increases more; and there is one who withholds more than is right, but it leads to poverty.” (Proverbs 11:24)

Unbelief

Your actions are always going to follow your beliefs. If you believe in God’s promises to you for obeying instruction you will receive His blessing and conversely if you don’t believe you will not have His blessing upon your life. It takes just a little faith to receive God’s blessing, faith the size of a mustard seed. As a man thinks in his heart so is he. You don’t lose anything by having a little faith. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

Ungratefulness

In difficult times like today there is no shortage of opportunity to complain about the things that we do not have. In our arrogance we have a tendency to develop an entitlement mentality believing that the government or other people owe us certain things. No one owes us anything, especially God because everything in the world is His. It only takes a change in attitude to realize that we are blessed with a lot when you consider the plight of less fortunate people all over the world. Many of them barely have enough food to eat and access to education can be also difficult. “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

The Lord is faithful to those that are faithful. He commands us to bring the tithes and as a result He makes sure that we are protected from financial disaster. (Malachi 3:10) More importantly, sowing your tithes into God’s Kingdom carries eternal rewards, “but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:20)

I hope we have given you some valuable information to ponder. Knowing this principle is the basis to sound financial blessing. In the next section we are going to talk about another fundamental principle that leads to financial blessing. Until next time,

Be all you can be!
