Being successful isn’t a straight path because you’re going to meet with obstacles along the way to get you off course. While there are obstacles that need to be navigated to get past them there are others that you must avoid to give yourself the best chance to win.
In this post we are going to look at four such obstacles that you must deal with to set yourself up for success.
1. Domineering forces
When God created the earth He gave man the mandate to have dominion over the earth as you will discover in the book of Genesis. It’s important to point out that he didn’t say that man was dominate other men. When sin came into the world the devil perverted that plan and influenced people to want to dominate others.
Your success in life gets limited if there are people you allow to dominate you whether consciously or subconsciously. The word of God does tells us that we are to submit to authority figures yet at the same time not submit when it compromises your values.
A good example I can point to are the three Hebrew children Shadreck, Misheck and Abednego that refused to bow down to Nebuchadnezzar in worship because they understood that God alone was worthy of worship. Though they were threatened God vindicated them and the miracle of their deliverance even ministered to Nebuchadnezzar.
Successful people are independent thinkers that will not allow other people to dictate their lives. They may get labeled as mavericks but these are the people that bring about real change in the world today. Ask yourself if there are any people in your life that have a negative hold over you and be honest about it. You won’t be able to deal with a problem that you can’t define if you don’t. When you do find ways to break free from that bondage.
2. Lack of clarity
To achieve success in any endeavor you must be clear about what you want. If you’re not sure about what you want out of life it means that you’re going nowhere fast. One of the key success factors in life is to have a clear vision and a plan of action to attain it.
“Where there is no prophetic vision, the people cast off restraint.” ~ Proverbs 29:18
Having a clear path to follow serves to motivate successful people to get up each morning with a sense of purpose to do great and mighty exploits. The opposite is also true in that when you’re not clear about what you want life becomes miserable.
Fortune 500 companies today like Facebook, Apple, Econet Wireless to name a few are led by top professionals that were clear from the onset about what they wanted to accomplish. The main goal is to serve people knowing the direction that you’re taking as you move forward even though the ways of doing evolve over time.
Having a clear plan breeds confidence that you’re going to win in spite of the obstacles you will encounter along the way. If you’re in the right place at the right time you are going to win in the long run and become a successful person in the process.
3. Sense of insecurity
Insecurity can be a result of having an identity crisis. Who is it that you identify with as a person. Some of the things people identify themselves with include gangs, sports teams, politicians, music celebrities, their business, and more. None of these things in themselves are bad at all.
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” ~ Sun Tzu
As a sports fan myself I follow certain teams for entertainment and follow the lives of certain people but my life is not wrapped up in any of them. Even though these various groups look good on the outside none of them can give you the security you crave to live a meaningful life in this world.
On the other hand if you identify yourself with Jesus Christ your life will be secure forever because He gives you the assurance that you will conquer this world. The key to success is to stay rooted in Him and live a life that shows the world that you identify with Jesus Christ.
4. Taking shortcuts
Top professionals in any field of life pay the full price to earn what they get in life. Shortcuts to success are a myth and they are the devil’s way of delaying your success in life. They often look enticing from the outside yet they take you nowhere significant. Successful people are willing to go through the trials and tribulations to win big.
Think about this way, the tests you go through in life are what will become your testimony. I once heard someone also say that your mess can become your message. Going through the challenges of life and overcoming them are what will enable you to make a real impact to people because they can relate stories to their own lives.
Without going through the struggles there will be no success stories to talk about meaning that you won’t inspire many people in the process. Determine in your heart and mind the price you must pay to live out God’s purpose for your life to the full and go ahead and take the necessary action to make it happen.
When you do that you will inspire other people to do the same without you even knowing it. Shortcuts are a myth – you must keep that at the forefront of your mind. Jesus Christ himself didn’t take a shortcut so how can we do anything less?
