The meaning of integrity

I hope you enjoyed and learned something from the previous post about integrity. It is such a big thing in your life and portrays to the world your strength (or weakness) of character. If you missed that post be sure to check it out before proceeding with this one.

There are many examples that we can look at on this subject of integrity. The meaning of integrity is basically congruency in your character. That is being the same person when people are watching and when they are not. This applies to our relationships, our workplaces, business, health and all the other areas of your life. Ultimately it is doing the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.

Let us break down what it looks like in a few key areas:

1. Marketplace/ business

In a world that is full of corruption it is very easy to get involved in deceitful and unethical business practices. Simple things like stealing from a shop if you’re a customer or overcharging customers for your products and services.

Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.” ~ Proverbs 20:17

Deceitful practices are sweet for the moment but bring more misery than the instant gratification before that. Therefore it would be wise to desist from them so as to receive God’s blessing by dealing honestly.

2. Morality

One of the major problems of society in this day and age is that of loose morals where we hear stories of adultery and fornication. This is one of the enemy’s biggest weapons for destroying families and nations as a whole. Instead of people promoting the use of condoms they should be promoting abstinence. It is a problem that affects us all either directly or indirectly.

Marriage is honourable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.” ~ Hebrews 13:4

A people without morals are doomed to destruction. You just have to look at many nations around the world to see the problems that exist and killing the fabrics of society.

In a world full of corruption and immorality are you going to be one of the few people that will do what is right even when no one else is watching you? What you do in private reveals your true character at the end of the day. It takes courage to stick to your convictions, to be the one that goes in one direction when others go the other way.

Determine to be one of the few that will be counted to have integrity. You may be unpopular in the eyes of the majority but what really matters is that you are popular in the eyes of the Lord.
