In my profession as a Digital Marketer I learned a concept known as Inbound Marketing that is centered on creating marketing that prospects and customers of your product or service actually want. In contrast to that approach is the traditional way of pushing marketing on people that they don’t really want. It is an invasive way of marketing.
The problem is that this approach no longer works effectively because people’s buying behavior has changed with the advent of the Internet. Whereas information was known by a few people that could easily dominate markets in the past today information is readily available which gives us options.
A mentor of mine taught me that, “People buy from you if they like you or trust you.” The only way to get people to like you and trust you is by learning to listen to them. When you understand their needs and wants while expressing a sincere desire to help them get what they want they are more receptive to what you share with them.

Most businesses in the present day are self-serving seen by their poor customer service and prioritizing making money ahead of making sure that their customers are happy. Unfortunately for some people it’s a lack of education but others really just don’t care yet they wonder why their businesses do not grow the way they want to.
The world’s way of thinking is that you can get whatever you want in life by focusing on yourself. However, God’s design is that if you want to be among the greatest you need to be a servant of many,
“Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all.” ~ Mark 10: 43-44
The late Zig Ziglar, one of the most successful salespeople the world has ever known under this concept very well and coined the following phrase as a result, “You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”
Focusing on the needs of others is how massive and successful corporations are built. It is the same way that every other great achievement is accomplished – through serving the multitudes. Refuse to be a self centered person and choose instead to be a person that adds value to the lives of the people around you.
