The world as we know it today is facing one of the most challenging times it has ever been through in history. We are in a place that we have never been before and with that life carries a lot of uncertainty. It used to be that a few countries could be in economic crises while others would be doing well. Now everyone everywhere is affected one way or another.
It’s easy to back down and give up on life completely because it looks like there’s no hope for the future.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.” ~ Psalm 46:1-2
You have dreams that God has given you to pursue but you feel that with the way things are right now it would be foolish to follow your dreams. Perhaps you are using the excuse that you have a family to take care of, you’re too young, too old, you don’t have the right experience, etc. It might surprise you for me to tell you that’s how selfish people think.
Selfish! Really? If you have a family, I don’t mean leaving your job all of a sudden and pursuing your dream at their expense. Here are 3 reasons why I refer to people that don’t follow your dreams as selfish people:
1. They deprive God of His Glory
Look at what the Bible says in Ephesians 1:5-6,
“Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.”
If God created you for great things even before you were conceived why sabotage those plans and deprive Him the glory that is due to His Name? God is the author and finisher of your faith. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. If He has put a dream in your heart to pursue it is your duty to come into a place of agreement with Him and He will direct your paths.
2. They cause suffering on the people waiting on them
Like I mentioned earlier, you may be using the excuse, “I have a family to take care of that’s why I can’t pursue my dreams.” While that’s you think, your family (perhaps your children more so) are wondering when you are going to really pursue your dreams. Pursuing your dreams is actually meant to be of benefit to them and not meant to harm them.
Those dreams are not there by accident. God put them in your heart so that you can bless your family and the people in your sphere of influence. You are carrying the solutions to many people’s problems and as a result that can open doors for you to make money for the service you provide. Don’t allow excuses to stand in the way of you following dreams. Only selfish people do that.
3. You become unfulfilled and restless
One thing you can never do is totally ignore the calling God has placed on your life. The two reasons mentioned above are enough to push you to do something about your dreams. The only way you become fulfilled is by emptying yourself in service to meet the needs of others.
Some people think that they can get fulfilled by looking out for themselves but in reality you only become more and more restless with life. Giving of yourself to making a valuable contribution to your family and others around you leads to true fulfilment.
Make a decision to do something about your dreams and set goals to make them a reality.
