Imagine today you suddenly fell ill and you get admitted into hospital because your condition turns out to be very serious. You are a bit disoriented but after some time you get back to a state of consciousness and lo and behold, your doctor is there to give you a report. Unfortunately the report turns out to be bad news for you and completely changes your perspective about life.
Your doctor tells you that you have a few more weeks to live because you have been diagnosed with a disease that is going to kill you. As a result you are advised to get your affairs in order before the day arrives. The question is, “Has your life been meaningful while you were here on earth??”
The lesson here is that none of us ever really know when we are going to die so we should live each day as if it were our last. We must be constantly pursuing excellence in every area of life using our gifts and talents that the Lord has given to us to bring Him glory and bless those that are around us. You never want to be the person who on their death bed begins to regret the things that he never did.
You have a responsibility to use the gifts and talents God has given you. It is important to note that your life is not just about you; other people around you are dependent on your success in order to be successful and God holds you accountable for that. Think about the parable of the talents in the Bible,
“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'” ~ Matthew 25:21
“For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” ~ Matthew 25:29-30
The amazing thing is that when you help other people get what they want by using your gifts and talents you automatically get what you want. I learned this from the late Zig Ziglar. Life is about interdependency therefore none of us can survive as an island. If you’re not using your abilities then the question is, “What then are you doing with your life?” This is a really serious question.
It is a tragedy to just go through the motions and living life by default like you have no control over your life. Keep in mind that you will give an account at the end of your life to God. Do not be the person that goes to the grave with your music still playing inside of you. Let your light shine and bless those that are around you.
