The way we are programmed without even knowing it is that we are powerless to change our lives and build the life we want. The devil is behind that agenda and he uses our circumstances to make you believe that you can change your life.
The undeniable truth is that you have the power to change your life.
The things God does amaze me often when a situation seems hopeless. He uses people inspired by His Spirit and Word to do what would have seemed impossible to accomplish.
You hold the key to unlocking your full potential and not an external force. It is good to know that you have the power to do that but for some it is not unfortunately.
For the latter it is hard because they expect something other than themselves to change things in their lives and they wait forever as a result. Accepting responsibility for yourself is the first step to making any change and is a sign of maturity.
1. Reflect on past achievements
The natural tendency for human beings is to focus on the bad things about themselves. That is one of the ways the entry of sin in the world corrupted you and me.
A study was conducted that showed that when people look themselves in the mirror long enough they see everything that is wrong with them. It is easier to see the negative than it is to see the positive.
Make time to regularly thank God for the good things He has helped you accomplish up to this point in your life. The more you are grateful for what you already have the more you will attract good things in your life.
A sense of gratitude gives you strength and encouragement to achieve greater things in the future.
If God enabled you to win in the past He can do it again today and tomorrow. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Make a habit of exercising gratitude for your past victories because they are the platform to experience more victories.
2. Ministry to others
Another natural tendency is for human beings to look out for their own needs and concerns. It is not a bad thing to take care of yourself, it is just half of the equation.
Jesus said in Luke 10:27 that you should love your neighbor as you love yourself. Sin’s corrupted nature makes us want to look out for our own individual interests that is why we should always be converted from sin to righteousness.
Looking out for yourself is the way of the world. The way of the Kingdom of God is to love our neighbor just as we love ourselves. When you take care of other people’s needs God will be sure to take care of your needs.
Being other people minded is the platform of creating a lasting legacy which will be seen in the changing lives of the people you serve.
It is impossible to create a legacy as an individual. It requires a vision and commitment to serve people that makes a positive difference in their lives. In simple terms it means being a problem solver and making other people’s lives better.
The main quality of entrepreneurs is that they solve people’s problems and the more people they serve the more successful they become. As you serve people let them see Jesus in you. You change your life by helping change other people’s lives.
3. The Power of Confession
Great accomplishments begin with a vision followed by a well-executed strategy to see it manifested. Another important ingredient in that formula is confessing with your mouth as you execute the strategy to see the vision become a reality. God demonstrated this when He created the world we live in.
Proverbs 18:21 says, “Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Words have creative power so you must be careful of what comes out of your mouth. The devil will try to get you to confess the negative but you have the power to choose otherwise.
“Life is composed of your choices and constructed by your words.” ~ Edwin Louis Cole
The words that should come out of your mouth must be in line with God’s promises found in His Word. At the church I attend we make use of affirmation cards with scriptures from the Word of God.
They help me to keep my mind focused on the promises and not allow it to be consumed by the negative reality I see in the natural.
Again the negative things of life are a result of sin and should be countered by the Word of God to turn them into positives. Have awareness of what comes out of your mouth and speak what God speaks.
The Bible has answers to every situation you may be facing or will face down the road.
4. Make the decision
The turnaround you are looking for is just a decision away. It is amazing that what you need to do when you make a decision is not a complicated process. It is making the decision where the real challenge lies and that is where many people struggle. Once you make a decision and follow through on what you need to do then nothing can stop you from getting what you want.
Jesus’ greatest struggle was in the Garden of Gethsemane and not the actual torture that he went through on his way to the cross. Once he had decided to accept God’s will to be beaten and hung on the cross he was able to follow through and win salvation for us.
I am also reminded of William Wallace in the movie Braveheart who went through a similar struggle when he was beheaded. In his mind he had already decided that Scottish independence from the English was more important than his own life which enabled him to endure the torture to make his stance very clear. That decision propelled his fellow Scots to fight for their freedom.
Once you make the decision to win it makes it possible to do so. It is not a one off thing however. Decide daily that you are going to win and you will get closer to what you want to achieve with your life. Decisions are life changing.
You can do anything you put your mind to. It will take time but day by day life changing can happen as you apply yourself. To win at the highest level you need to have a high level of awareness about who you are and the power God has given you to become what He created you to become.
Your only limitations are the ones you have in your mind. You must let go of those limitations and go after what you truly were created to be. You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength.
