In my experiences dealing and relating to people I have learned that most people that don’t realize their potential are not necessarily held by back by limitations. Everyone has challenges that they encounter in life and history does prove that no obstacle can stand in the way of a determined person.

In fact a lot of them have amazing talent but that alone doesn’t guarantee success in whatever area of expertise of life. The biggest and most crippling obstacle to a lot of people not realizing their life’s potential is fear. This is one of the enemy’s most deadly weapons against believers that’s he has used with a high level of success.

For God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” ~ 2 Timothy 1:7

Fear is not your portion in life. God commands to have faith in Him but the enemy counters that faith with fear to stop you from receiving God’s best for your life.

Having experienced fear in my own life I know how damaging it can be. Here are 4 things that you can do to overcome it and build confidence that will enable you to become all that you dream of becoming:

1. Identify with Christ

When God sent His Son Jesus to die for us on the cross He saved us not only from our sins but every other element of the kingdom of darkness, including fear. He did it for you so that you could live an abundant life that God originally intended since creation.

And if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” ~ Romans 8:17

The first thing you need to do is accept Him as your Lord and Savior so that you can also be saved from your sin and enjoy the full benefit of the abundant life he has in store for you. Abundance of health, relationships, wisdom, provision, and more.

2. Reflect on God’s goodness in the past

Always remember that everything that God does is based upon a principle of His Kingdom. We go through seasons in life each designed to bring you closer to God. You may be in a season where you are facing hardships and the future is unclear but just like seedtime is certain you can be sure that harvest time will come too.

And they overcame by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” ~ Revelation 12:11

Your time to thrive again will surely come because that is another season of life. Praise God for the great things He has done in your life and know that even if you are going through a difficult spell right now He will bring you to a place of rest and progress again.

3. Daily affirmations

There are hundreds of God’s promises for your life in the Bible. Make it a daily habit to declare His promises over your life and eventually you will start to become more and more of what the Word says. Customize his promises to your own situation to make them more powerful even your situation suggests otherwise.

Let the weak say, ‘I am strong’” ~ Joel 3:10

Your words have power so it’s important to watch you say about yourself and about the circumstances in your life. Positive words build confidence while negative diminish it.

4. Take action!

The confidence that you will build up as a result of the points above should be translated into action otherwise nothing much changes in your life. One of the surest ways of conquering fear is doing the things that you are afraid of.  Fear is an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real.

“But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?” ~ James 2:20

The more action you take the more you overcome fear and build up confidence.
