The Bible says faith is the substance of things hoped for and many verses show how people exemplified it. Being a believer of Christ can be tough living and it requires faith many a time. In this post we look at Bible verses about faith in hard times that are worth memorizing.
Living by faith can be exciting but at other times it can be a terrifying experience. This is true when you lose your job and need to take of your family; or when you take a certain direction not fully sure it makes sense but you’re at peace about it.
There are verses from the Holy Bible that prove that God is moved by a person’s faith. We develop faith in God by meditating on His Word and in this post we share related Bible verses.
Here are 7 Bible verses about faith in hard times to help your belief when life gets tough:
1. “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” ~ 1 John 5:4
By virtue of being a child of God, you are a co-heir with Jesus Christ with authority here on earth. It’s the believer that doesn’t understand their true identity in Christ that struggles to thrive because they don’t realize their authority. To get a full understanding of who you are in Christ, I recommend you study Ephesians 1-2.
Because the devil knows that he is doomed for eternity, he tries by all means to sidetrack the saints. If he can keep you from exercising your authority here on earth, he will continue to thrive. Have faith in what God can do in and through you.
2. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” ~ Romans 10:17
Growing your faith comes to studying and meditating on God’s word because that’s the main way God speaks to us. Simple disciplines include having a daily schedule of reading some chapters from the Bible everyday coupled with prayer. Prayer enables you to connect with the Holy Spirit who will show you the mind of Christ.
Other ways of hearing the word include attending church and listening to sermons from your church pastor every week. Last, but not least, attending home groups and having Bible studies with other believers. The more you do these activities, the stronger your faith becomes.
3. “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” ~ Hebrews 12:2
A word of faith enables you to endure the worst of hardships because it gives you assurance of better things. This is why Jesus Christ endured crucifixion on the cross because He desired a restored relationship with you. He didn’t want you to be condemned to hell for eternity.
In the same way, endure the hardships of life knowing that if Jesus is with you, He’ll see you through. If God has authored a dream in your life, He will bring it to pass. It’s a different story if you’re doing your own thing because He’s not obliged to finish what He hasn’t authored.
4. “So the Lord said, ‘If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.’” ~ Luke 17:6
Having the confidence to alter challenging situations in your life is a matter of faith. It’s not because you’re better or more powerful than anyone else, but understanding the authority you have. The likes of George Muller lived a faith-filled life that had a track record of answered prayer.
Hebrews 11:1 says that, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Even if your faith seems small, it has the capacity to turn situations around and in your favor. This is evident with the people Jesus healed during his days on earth.
5. “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” ~ Matthew 19:26
You must understand that God’s ways are than your ways and His thoughts than your thoughts. What looks impossible to you is possible with God, and He does the impossible to reveal His glory. You might be believing for someone to come to a knowledge of Jesus Christ or anything else but it looks impossible.
Do remember that hope and faith work hand in hand. As I mentioned earlier, faith is the substance of things hoped. If what you hope for is based on the right motives and in line with God’s word, it will happen. It might not happen at your expected time but it will happen.
6. “Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, ‘You have faith, and I have works.’ Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” ~ James 2:17-18
At the end of the day, your expression of faith is the most important part about it. Faith alone is not enough because even the demons believe that Jesus Christ is Lord. Your actions should demonstrate the faith you profess to have. That means living a life of righteousness that is based on the word of God.
Express your faith in God by acting on the word He has given you. If He has said to you that you’re going to be wealthy, play your part in making that a reality. If it means you have to enroll for a course and study a particular field, do that.
7. “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” ~ Hebrews 4:16
Have faith in God knowing that He loves you and desires the best for you. Even in your moments of weakness when you feel lost and hopeless, He wants you to draw near to Him. He doesn’t expect you to have it all together when you come to Him, He only wants you.
Come before Him boldly and with humility and He will make your paths straight. A moment with God can change the direction of your life better than years of trying it yourself. When you partner with God, you become an unstoppable force no matter what hardships come your way.
