Lou Holtz is a former American head football coach at the college and pro levels. He’s perhaps best known for his time as head coach at Notre Dame from 1986-1996. He did a great job there but didn’t start on a high and had to overcome a lot of adversity in his days.

Later in his career he earned National Coach of the Year honors when he was with the South Carolina Gamecocks. He never failed to improve any side he coached during his career in spite of the obstacles he faced.
