The Goal Setting Process – Part 3

- in Success

“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” ~ James 2:17

“Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.” ~ Japanese Proverb

This article is the last in the series of articles on goal setting. We have looked at the basic philosophy of goal setting and the first 3 steps for setting your own goals to make your dreams a reality. We are now going to look at the last 2 steps of the 5 step goal setting process. This process has helped the highly successful people in life to be where they are today and I trust that if you apply it you will become successful too. After all, success breeds success.

Take Massive Action!!

At the end of the day what gets you results is taking action. This is step 4 in the goal setting process. Step 3 is preparing your plan. You then have to take action on the plan that you prepare for achieving your goals. I once read the statement, “Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.” Ideally you want to take action based on a definite purpose and plan for your life. Take action, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. As you take action you will eventually start to see results. They may not be instant results, it may take longer than you might have expected but they will come. You’re much better off than someone that does nothing with their life. Therefore, take action!!

Record the Results

I remember learning a scientific principle by Isaac Newton in school. It says, “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” As you take action you need to measure the outcome of what you do. Identify what works and what doesn’t. Do more of what works and adjust your strategy on the things that don’t work to get more favorable results. You are also likely to pick up some key lessons along the way that are worth noting down. This is what we call experience. The next time you work on a similar project in the future you will find this information to be very valuable by saving you time and money. Just like in sports the coach is able to adjust his strategy depending on what is on the scoreboard; therefore we should also apply the same concept to our goals.

This is the basic goal setting process that many successful people in life use to get to the top of their fields. Like I said, you can apply the same principles and become great too. There are different goal setting tools available and the key is to find one that works for you but the concept remains the same. If you would like more information about the tool that I use to set goals feel free to send me a message via the contact page and I will do my best to help you. I would like to hear your views and comments in the comments section below.

Today is a new day. Begin to dream again and dare to pursue your purpose with everything you’ve got. Life is a precious gift after all so make the world a better place not only for others but so that you live a more fulfilling life.

Be all you can be!
